KristiSpessardPhotoCreditAnjaHitzenberger Kristi Spessard Dance is a collaborative-driven dance company, known for its capacity for wildness, sensualist tendencies and an interest in challenging expectations. Their works celebrate a large creative footprint and have related a forgotten floral language to audiences; detained window watchers on 42nd Street; raised suspicion amongst police in Berlin; enticed partiers; and woven word and imagery for theater and opera audiences alike.

Artistic Director, Kristi Spessard has been creating and producing solo and ensemble dance works since 1995 in locations including New York, Mexico, Virginia, North Dakota, West Virginia and Berlin. She was a 2008 Mabou Mines Suite Resident Artist and on the cover of Ballet Tanz Magazine’s 2007 Yearbook. Her dance works are a cross-pollination of ideas between performers, architects, and visual designers, which creates a rich, explosive outcome.

Spessard has performed widely with many innovative dance companies in New York and hails from a strong background in performance, ballet and contemporary dance. She currently teaches at Marymount Manhattan College and New York Opera Studio.

“Spessard has the implacable and generous countenance of a good hostess, combined with a gentle animal-like inquisitiveness.”
