FGravelPortraitbyFrancisDucharme1 GAG is best known for pieces such as Du pittoresque en Danse, et dans la mienne en particulier (2004), the company’s nod to Kandinsky, which made its mark with its tone, stage intelligence and direct complicity with the audience. This work established GAG as one to watch in Montreal.

With a sense of paradox and a nonchalant manner, GAG portrays the touchstones of contemporary dance – physical intensity, raw virtuosity and pedestrian movement, nudity, sexuality, coexistence of artistic genres (rock, performance art, scripted scenes, improv, etc.). These themes have been present in GAG’s work from the beginning, stripped of mannered effects and far removed from any unifying dramaturgy.

GAG’s most recent work, Gravel Works, has been performed in its final form at Tangente in 2008 and at the Festival Transamerique in an upgraded version in 2009.
